When I heard Amazon was launching a re-launching a music store, I thought it would suck, like unbox and all the other digital media download stores Amazon has ever made. But it doesn't suck. It's totally awesome. 1. you get normal DRM-free MP3 files for only $0.99 (sometimes $0.89). 2. Albums seem to be $7 - $9. 3. They have a download manager for Mac. It's actually a really nice, simple, clean piece of software. Hopefully this will trigger a price war with iTunes and we'll see music prices drop to what they should be. I think that means $0.05-0.10 for crappy songs and $0.50 for popular/good tracks. Albums should be $5.

I learned something the other day that I didn't know about; you can lock the firmware on a Mac to prevent people from booting from a CD or from starting your Mac in disk mode. Basically, it means someone would have to physically open your mac (and, for example, remove the hard disk) to get to your data and/or reinstall a fresh OS. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106482

I had a Sony Vaio notebook PC back in 1999. It's good to see they are just as good today as they were back then. Ha. Sony deserves to have its lunch eaten. The thing I remember most about mine was that it had a USB external floppy disk that didn't work most of the time, like when you needed to install a driver. (Remember how shocking it was when the iMac came out with no floppy (or any other) writable removable media?)

Undercover is spyware you install to locate and (hopefully) recover your Apple laptop if it gets stolen. Sort of like Lo-Jack, it starts sending IP telemetry, screenshots and even face shots of the thief once activated. Also, something I did not know: apparently you can put a password on your firmware to prevent disk reformatting. Makes me want to buy a MacBook just so I can buy this software. :-)
